Baptism Day

So much JOY.

So much.

Choosing to dig into and adhere to the words of Jesus Christ is the best decision I've ever made.

There is a movement, within the membership of the LDS Church (and increasingly outside of it, as members otherwise in full good standing are excommunicated for "apostasy"), to once again rely on the scriptures as the definitive Word of God. To trust the words of Jesus Christ over anything contradictory spoken by man. Thousands have been baptized according to the Doctrine of Christ, and it's not slowing down, despite heavy-handed disciplinary actions and top-down ordered excommunications by LDS leadership, in direct contradiction to their own press releases and scripture. (There's a whole rat's nest of plausible deniability, due to Area Authority 70's not necessarily being considered "general authorities", but I won't go into that here.)

This is the stone cut out of the mountain without hands . . . all believers, everywhere, seeking God on His terms, and seeking to do His will. It is happening in all denominations, all over the world. The LDS Church is no exception.

Yesterday was an incredible day . . . and I will treat it as the celebratory occasion it was. Hallelujah for Jesus Christ, our Lord, and His wonder, glory, and love for us!

I welcome questions, concerns, and freak-outs . . . once again, this blog is a platform for open discussion, and an earnest and simple offer to seek understanding, instead of take refuge in gossip and hearsay.

Peace be to you Reader, whoever you are, in Jesus' name, so be it.

Planted in This Place for His Glory

Scripture: Nehemiah 1:5, 6, 11 NKJV

And I said: “I pray, Lord God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love You and observe Your commandments, please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father’s house and I have sinned. O Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name; and let Your servant prosper this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.” For I was the king’s cupbearer.

Observation: This man, this servant of God, knew His heart, and trusted Him. He knew what to do, and that he stood in a unique position to gain help from the king to accomplish what he knew would please the Lord.

Application: What place has my Lord planted me? What unique situations and influences do I have that would glorify His name, and accomplish His work?

Prayer: Lord of Hosts, I praise Your holy Name, and thank You endlessly for Your goodness and grace and faithfulness. The importance of the rock-solid trust I have in You is so far beyond expression. The empowering and propelling force of it changes everything. :o) So, Lord, now that You've made me something of a superwoman, shown me Your love and grace that saves and empowers, show me the next step to take. Show me how to call down heaven into earth, how to walk in Your kingdom every moment, how to spread it abroad into the hearts of those around me, and how to rock. this. place. for our good, and Your name's glory! In Jesus' name, amen!!!

Something to remember: Dissent

From an interesting (and very long) article I've recently read:

"A difference of opinion does not constitute dissenting behavior
Scriptural dissenting behavior deals only with church doctrines, rites and government. Some people, though, cannot differentiate between scriptural dissenting behavior and the modern, generic definition of dissent, which merely means “a difference of opinion.” So any censuring they see, of any kind, is viewed as morally wrong, a violation of one’s right to free speech, as put down in the First Amendment.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The problem with that view, is that a church is not a public institution, but a private one, and like all private institutions, it has certain rules which its membership is expected to obey.
We believe that all religious societies have a right to deal with their members for disorderly conduct, according to the rules and regulations of such societies; provided that such dealings be for fellowship and good standing; but we do not believe that any religious society has authority to try men on the right of property or life, to take from them this world’s goods, or to put them in jeopardy of either life or limb, or to inflict any physical punishment upon them. They can only excommunicate them from their society, and withdraw from them their fellowship. (D&C 134:10)"

Oh Tyre, I Bid Thee Farewell

I will send you to the pit to join those who descended there long ago. Your city will lie in ruins, buried beneath the earth, like those in the pit who have entered the world of the dead. You will have no place of respect here in the land of the living. I will bring you to a terrible end, and you will exist no more. You will be looked for, but you will never again be found. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!” (Ezekiel 26:20, 21 NLT)

This is the final part of Tyre's prophesied destruction. As I read through it, the difference between Tyrian self-sought glory and the glory that comes to those who seek God stood out crystal clear. Those who seek after and glorify The Lord will be splendid and have all they need physically. There will be no poor, peace will abound, and God Himself can dwell there.

But in the places of those who seek their own wealth & fame, God is not welcome. And because they didn't seek Him and let Him provide for their needs, they were utterly destroyed.

Which pattern do I predominantly follow in my life? Whose glory do I seek? Mine? The world's? Or my most utterly-complete, generous and ever-faithful Yahweh's?

Father Almighty, please open my eyes. I know I sometimes squeeze them shut, or train them on things of no worth, when I'm tired and feeling alone. Please come and comfort me with Your presence. Make the pull of Babylon evaporate, and let my eye be single to your glory. Comfort me and surround me with Your vivid, joyous peace that fills me with the completion of Your enabling love I pray, in the name of Your Holy Lamb. Amen.

Musings on Gathering

Scripture: Jeremiah 23:3-4 NLT

But I will gather together the remnant of my flock from the countries where I have driven them.  I will bring them back to their own sheepfold, and they will be fruitful and increase in number.  Then I will appoint responsible shepherds who will care for them, and they will never be afraid again.  Not a single one will be lost or missing. I, the Lord, have spoken!

Observation:

What a lovely, lovely prophecy this is.  While I'm not currently living in a physical gathering of Saints, I look forward to the day I will . . . even if I have to wait until Christ comes again.  I have long had a feeling that this is a gathering place, this county of ours, and I look forward to seeing what that means to God, and what He plans he will bring about.

Application:

In the meantime, I will cherish verses like these.  I will surrender and live among my family, and among my friends, in this way.  I don't want a single one to go missing, or be lost.  I want to live in fellowship with the Saints, in unity, in the love of Christ, so His joy can flow among and through us without obstruction.

Prayer:

Father in heaven, I praise Your glorious and holy name for the gathering you have done in my life; for the precious loved ones I have who have led me to You.  Thank you, thank you, thank you! And I thank you for the way that I'm beginning to find kindred where I didn't expect, to help and support me--those who understand very well what I have experienced. Lord, please guide me. Help me to know how to love my own, and Your own, and all others, with Your love.  Show me how to raise my children, how to train and teach them, so they can come to know You as You really are.  Put people in their paths--TRUE disciples of Your Son, Jesus--who can show them Your way, and the true nature of God's love.  Let Your love touch those I speak to, those I touch.  And please bless me with a constant desire to do so, and the awareness to recognize when I have allowed the enemy to slip back into my life. he is so, so sneaky, and I don't always catch it before he has managed to make me forget so, so much. In Jesus' name, amen.
